“My dad taught me that God blesses us with work so we shall bless the clients with the gift we were born with to help them”

Originally from Aguascalientes Mexico, Miguel Velasco came to the United States in May of 2004. Although the move from Aguascalientes to Longview was drastic, Miguel knew the opportunities that were available to him and was ready to accomplish his goals. Although he didn’t speak the same language he did not let that get in the way of finding a job.
He landed his first job in a nursing home where he worked for about a year. He was grateful for the job but he needed to find a second job to be able to purchase his first car. Miguel began working at a fast food restaurant while still at the nursing home. After a few months he realized how much opportunity for growth there was at a fast food restaurant so he began taking classes to learn English. Once he dominated the language he was promoted to Manager and after receiving his General Education Diploma he was promoted to GM. Miguel did not stop there, as a GM he was able to set his own schedule which led him to want to achieve even more.
Miguel registered for college and graduated with a degree in Business/Accounting from San Angelo College.
While taking his courses he worked for a Tax company which led him to his interest in Tax Services. After graduating Miguel decided to open his own business, Miguel Velasco Tax Service.
His search for an office did not take long -within a week he found the perfect location.
“It was like a calling, as soon as I walked in I felt a lot of positive energy, I felt like God placed me here.”
Miguel believes he was placed in the perfect place at the perfect time. He began his business with two employees, now he has 15 employees and two accountants.
He is very involved in giving back to the community because he believes the hispanics are looked upon differently. His effort is to show them that we can make a difference also.
“I had a friend that died of cancer so I was able to see her go through the whole process and I feel like she was treated differently for not having the same status as others who are more fortunate, that’s why I like to get involved in events for cancer patients“
Velasco Tax Services has all bilingual employees who offer payroll services, accounting, and of course tax services.
“People wait all year to get their tax return so I want to make sure they are taken care of as best as possible.” Velasco said closing the interview.
Velasco Tax Services is located at 903 E.Marshall Ave. in Longview.
